Aight y’all, check this out. This week we had a little bit of competition for the top spot on The Hip Hop Speakeasy. But one thing put this album, Honkey Kong by Apathy, ahead of the others.. and that is lyricism. Apathy’s lyricism blew me away. He is a little more on the hardcore side, but just listen to his lyrics. Pure fire! From the subject matter, to the similes and metaphors, to the true-genius multi’s used in his rhymes, the guy has his lyricism locked down in a good spot. The production is definitely up there, but the lyrics are top notch. His flow is right on and what he’s got to say is amazing. Some conscious, some political, some self-empowering. It’s definitely an album you gotta hear. So, my rating…

8/10

I recommend this album to any fan of more hardcore hip hop such as Cypress Hill, Jedi Mind Tricks, Freeway, etc…
