How could this album NOT make the top spot on the Hip Hop Speakeasy? Today, the legendary Roots crew dropped their 13th studio album, Undun. What’s crazy about this album is that it’s the Roots’ first concept album (you can discover the story by watching the video after the bump). The album features expert production by the one and only ?uestlove, along with some other guest producers. The group has come a long way since their debut album Organix but they still continue to deliver that incredible hip hop/neo-soul music that we all know and love. Black Thought‘s lyrics continue to impress with his tried and true messages, perfect flow and enticing subject-matter. There are also many great features on the album such as Phonte, Bilal, and, of course, frequent collaborator, Dice Raw. There were many dope hip hop albums that came out this week so check out the notable mentions below, but this one definitely had to earn the top spot. So, my rating…

I recommend this album to any fan of live instrumentation in their hip hop music, and any fan of neo-soul, because you would love this album.
