In a week filled with very mainstream releases, House Shoes was able to hold it down for hip hop with the long-awaited release of his debut album Let It Go. House Shoes has been giving back and doing good for the hip hop community – especially in Detroit – for quite a few years now, helping artists such as eLZhi and J Dilla; now it’s House Shoes’ time to shine in the spotlight. With a perfected style of production, House Shoes got to making beats for Let It Go a while back, and to complete this project, he enlisted the help of several of hip hop’s greatest underground emcees to rap over his beats. Roc Marciano, Black Milk, Royce da 5’9″ and more all provide some dope vocals over House Shoes’ production. I feel the beats have a darker tone to them and are very unique – definitely Detroit-hip hop, but with a grittier, darker touch. Tracks like “Sweet (feat. Danny Brown)” and “Nails (feat. Quelle Chris & Guilty Simpson)” really stuck out to me for their sawtooth sounds and eclectic drums. Overall, this album is one unique piece of art and everybody should support a fresh sound of good, Detroit hip hop. As a bonus, the album also comes with 2-discs, the first being the album, and the second being the instrumentals, so if you really like the beats, you can get the album with the two discs straight from UGHH.com. So, my rating…

8.5/10

I recommend this album to any fan of Detroit hip hop.
