It’s already been a pretty crazy summer for hip hop, but it’s about to get a little more insane with the release of Aesop Rock‘s first album in five years. Much like his former boss, El-P (whom I saw last weekend, it was epic), Aesop’s first post-Def Jux album does not disappoint.

Aesop unleashes his relentless flow and incredibly intricate lyricism throughout the entire LP, which he produced entirely by himself. Now I’ve only gotten to play the album once, and with any Aesop Rock album, you truly cannot get a grip of the music until after you’ve listened for many, many times. So I’m going to leave to score as a “TBD” for now, because rating this album now would do Aesop and this album an incredible disservice. Maybe I’ll come back with a full fledged album review after I’ve fully digested the album.
