Kev Brown: I Do What I Do [2005]

I-Do-What-I-Do

I truly admire artists like Kev Brown. I first discovered Kev Brown through this album which was released back in ’05, although some people may have heard Kev on his unofficial remix of Jay-Z‘s The Black Album (which was the first unofficial remix of that album). What makes Kev so admirable is, not only does he produce and rap, but he’s got such an authentic, true-to-hip hop sound. I find him easily comparable to Dilla, but with a more boom-bap sound and a lot more choppier samples. There’s hardly a skippable track on this album; hell, the intro track even gets my head nodding. His voice are mellow, giving his style a real, low-key vibe that’s just creates an old-school hip hop type feel. With some dope features such as Grap Luva, Phonte, Oddisee and Kenn Starr, Kev Brown sure has a nice crew on I Do What I Do. Just one more tid-bit to impress you a little more: Kev isn’t a common hip hop artist out of NYC, or Cali, or Chicago, or even Atlanta… no, Kev comes from Maryland. Yup. Hip hop is truly worldwide and Kev Brown can help prove it. Buy the album.
