The funky swing of the west-coast meets the smooth vibes of the east-coast and gets sprinkled with the intelligently alternative of the north-west on Fully Fundamental, the debut album by Californian rappers Junoflo and Apaullo. AKA Native Souls, these two young rappers have something going for them. Mixing a contemporary alternative style, similar to the emerging Seattle hip hop scene, with an classic freestyle-type flow, Native Souls bashes in the door of normalcy with the boot of creativity. As far as beats go, they decide to pay homage to some older classics like an ATCQ joint and “One Love,” and then they go and spit fire over a re-done “Otis” beat. The production is on point and their flow is, as well. They rap fast, they rap slow, they tell stories, they brag. Every dope ground in hip hop is covered on this relatively short, 7-track album. I find them comparable to Blue Scholars and Dumbfoundead and artists like that; they have a very freestyle-type flow, like I mentioned before. I wouldn’t be surprised if these guys could spit off the top of their head. Anyways, this album is dirt cheap for only $5, but the good news is that this album is served on a silver platter for FREE (if you want to complain you’re broke or whatever). You can stream and download the entire album through their Bandcamp, or you can do all of that below.
