As the new voice for Baltimore, rapper Malik Ferraud is showing that he has the abilities to be the artist he was destined to be. His mixtape DAMN dropped last summer, but it still reigns as a defining project of this novice’s early career beginnings. Living check-to-check, making a lot of music and growing as a person are just some of the variety of very personal themes touched upon throughout DAMN. There’s a very intimate feeling expressed through Ferraud’s words that you don’t get with many other contemporary emcees (see “Mental Thoughts). Being able to pen emotion and feelings is a tough thing to do, but Malik Ferraud does it well over both original production and industry beats on his mixtape DAMN. A musician with no façade, Malik Ferraud represents Baltimore to the fullest, so go ahead and follow him as he chases his dream and give this project a listen.
