Soulection/Jakarta Records producer Mura Masa is an 18 year-old beat-making anomaly. The mysterious musician recently came under my radar and I’ve been following him ever since. His blending hypnotic jazz samples with booming soul sounds and dusty, head-nod-inudcing drums works wonders in contrast to today’s trap trend. Mura Masa just uploaded a four-track set on Soundcloud just titled Campus. What I can only guess is a collection of the best beats he’s made this semester (the tracks were dated between September and December), Campus bears an uncanny array of sounds, from the most downright soulful, upbeat jams you’ll hear this week to the smoothest, most eloquent jazzy instrumentals this side of the bloggersphere.
