Canadian production duo Potatohead People finally see their Bastard Jazz debut come to fruition on the “jazzy boom-bap meets boogie inside the bassbin” LP, Big Luxury. Big sounds expand out of boom-bap foundations to include trickling percussive instruments, spacious synths and funky grooves on this heavy creation. The album packs a lot of punch in the double-digit number of tracks (eleven for MP3 edition, twelve if you grab the vinyl). The duo, comprised of Nick Wisdom and AstroLogical, even grabbed features from the likes of Slum Village‘s Illa J (on two separate tracks), fellow Canadian Moka Only, in addition to Sorceress, Mosaic and Amalia. The remaining tracks are instrumentals that make for perfect jams to turn on once and leave spinning for hours. Potatohead People’s Big Luxury combines groovy boom-bap with lush, modern vibes to create a cross-genre LP for many a listener. Stream the album below and purchase via Bandcamp.
