mag

Aight everybody, since he’s one of the Hip Hop Speakeasy’s most favorite current artists, we just HAD to get a word with the dude. We couldn’t meet him in person but we did get to ask him a few questions to let y’all get the genius behind the music. He has a great view on things and a sense of humor, which is always good. So, here’s the official Hip Hop Speakeasy interview of Marvelous Mag:

Q: Who was your musical idol growing up?
A: “My idols were Tupac, The Bootcamp, and Bob Marley”
Q: Why did you decide to become a rapper?
A: “I decided to become a hip hop artist because I wanted to change the world 1 person at a time with positivity and inspiration, while making the women feel sexy :)”
Q: Who’s your favorite artist of all time?
A: “Favorite Artist of all time is Tupac”
Q: What is your inspiration for writing songs (in general/specifically)?
A: “My inspiration for writing music is to increase the intelligence in the nation, to relax minds, and to show the world that all music isn’t about party, cars and clothes”
Q: How did you get signed to Digi Crates?
A: “Got signed to Digi Crates when I sent them Soul City, they loved it and sent me a contract :)”
Q: Who are your musical inspirations?
A: “My Musical inspirations are all neo-soul artists. I love that smooth relaxing sound.”
Q: When did you start writing music? Do you remember the first beat you rhymed over? Or the first song you recorded?
A: “The first song I recorded was called “Hail Snow Sleet and Rain” lol. First beat I rhymed off of was “Other Side of the Game” by Badu.”
Q: How did the name Marvelous Mag come to being?
A: “Marvelous Mag came about because whenever people would ask me how I was doing I would respond ‘Marvelous’ lol and Mag short for Magnum which is latin for ‘Colossal’ and I feel I’m just that big to do any and everything, On top of that Marvelous is the Soulful smooth dude and Magnum is more of the street hip hop dude.”
Q: What was your inspiration for Soul City? What was it like working with Asia J?
A: “My inspiration for writing Soul City was being that it was my first album I wanted the world to step into mine and understand where I’m coming from and what I represent.. Working with Asia, she’s family part of the Strangerz so we worked together easily”
Q: What was your favorite song to record on Soul City?
A: “Far Away was my favorite song to record because I was in a funk mood so my emotions and thoughts was in that song fully.”

Q: What do you want people to get from your music?
A: “What I want people to get from my music is inspiration, poetic thoughts, knowledge, and relaxation, while I welcome them into my Marvelous Movement along with the Books and etc.”
Q: How do you see the state of hip hop now compared to in the past? What do you hope for the future?
A: “Well how music is now is more commercialized rather than before were lyrics and being unique stood out an made people accept you. Now it’s more business like, which isn’t a bad thing but it’s totally teaching the kids to be ignorant and to stay one dimensional, but that’s just my opinion lol. But on a brighter note its more indpendent now, it also allows artist to create their own fanbase through the internet, so that’s a great thing, you have the ability to control what goes on and a major label has no say on what you should record and when you should record.”
Q: What’s on Marvelous Mag’s iPod?
A: “In my iPod is Badu, Jill Scott, Aquemini, Full Crate and Mar, Tha Connection, Sade and Floetry.”
So there you go.. the official Hip Hop Speakeasy interview of Marvelous Mag. And by the way, today marks the day the Hip Hop Speakeasy earned 1000 views so I thank the fans for all the support.
