When you are craving high-energy, ill-rhyming hip hop, One Mic is the man to turn to. Coming back on the scene with his 5th official mixtape entitled No BIG Deal, One Mic is back and better than ever. His last album was more mellow and solemn, but I’m a fan of One Mic for his intense and true lyricism, which is exactly what this latest release delivers. While his beats tend to go more mainstream than underground, one can’t help but marvel at his raw talent on the mic. Songs like “The Kid In Me” and “Painting Rainbows (feat. Jenny Kinney)” really show the passion and amazing storytelling that One Mic has to offer. Tracks like “No More Lies” and “Best Friends Become Enemies” take on a more rugged approach as One Mic lashes out with everything he’s got. An overall solid project, and definitely his best work yet, One Mic is definitely a rapper on the up-and-coming who deserves recognition for showing true spirit in a genre where “realism” may get spotty and faded.
