R&B/Soul subtly meets reggae and electronica on singer Mickey Taelor‘s newest musical creation, HiiGrade Vol. 2. Taelor calls Long Beach, California her home, but the musical influences on HiiGrade Vol. 2 are reminiscent of Erykah Badu, but also something of Taelor’s own stylings. Mickey Taelor sweetly croons over watery, lo-fi productions, inducing a state of after-dark vibes blended with feel-good lyrics making the perfect soundtrack for a night on the town. Conversely, the album works well to soothe listeners with Taelor’s smooth vocals and natural elegance on the mic. DJ Rhettmatic lends some assistance on two tracks, and the singer offers her own rendition of Drake‘s “HYFR,” those being just a few of the gems on HiiGrade Vol. 2. Mickey Taelor cements her sound on this album, and she does well enough to make me anticipate big things for this up-and-comer, HiiGrade Vol. 2 being a potential catalyst for an interesting career. Stream the album in its entirety below and grab the project via Bandcamp.
